Crumpled plastic packaging collected for Plastic Free Swanage

Where to recycle in SwanageA local A to Z of what to take where

Got something you no longer need? Before it goes in the bin, there's usually a better home for it nearby. Look it up in our list below.

Repair, reuse, then recycle

Recycling is good, but it isn't the first step. Keeping something in use for longer saves the most energy, money and waste.

  1. 1

    Repair it

Fixing an item gives it a longer life and is usually the best option. Swanage's Repair Cafe is a good place to start.

  2. 2

    Pass it on

If it can't be fixed, find it a new owner through Freecycle, the town's charity shops (including the Swanage Emporium) or Dorset Reclaim for furniture.

  3. 3

    Recycle it

Use your kerbside collection first. For everything else, try the Household Recycling Centre or one of the shops in the list below.

Have we missed something?

We hope this list covers most things. If you know somewhere else that takes an item, please tell us and we'll add it.

Thank you to the Swanage WI for helping us build this list. For bin days and what goes in each bin, see the Dorset Council recycling page.
